COLLABORATION: FOUNDATIONS FOR THE FUTURE


29 September


9.00am Welcome, mihi: Seddon Bennington, Te Taru White (Te Papa).

9.10am Opening by Hon. Marian Hobbs, Minister for the National Library and Minister Responsible for Archives New Zealand.

9.30am Keynote presentation: Bernard Smith, Head of Unit for Cultural Heritage Applications in the European Commission’s Information Society Directorate. "Activities and Research for Cultural Heritage in the European Union."

10.30am Morning tea

11.00am Report back on progress since the Forum in 2002. Steve Knight (National Library of New Zealand) will speak about activities undertaken since last year, such as the Register of Digitisation Initiatives, Matapihi etc.

12.00pm Lunch

1.00pm Mihi, introduction, Te Taru White
Māori Digital Forum 2002 - Forum outcomes (Ross Himona, Cath Nesus, Te Papa);
Picture Iwi - building the concept of an inclusive iwi website (Bernard Makoare, Paul Tapsell, Auckland Museum);
Māori Subject Headings - building new collaborative finding aids (Māori Subject Headings steering committee, including Jenny Barnet & Alison Elliott); and
Te Puna Reo - building the country's first Māori dictionary (Haami Piripi, Te Taura Whiri)
Conclusion, Te Taru White

3.00pm Afternoon tea

3.30pm Presentation and panel discussion on the proposed draft strategic plan and way forward for the National Digital Forum. Chaired by Allison Dobbie (Auckland City Libraries) with Elizabeth Beale (Te Papa). Panel: Graham Coe (National Library), Seamus Ross (University of Glasgow), Jock Phillips (Ministry of Culture & Heritage) and Bruce Ralston (Auckland Museum).

5.00pm Sum up: Seddon Bennington (Te Papa), Dianne Macaskill (Archives New Zealand) and Penny Carnaby (National Library).

5.30pm Reception, drinks

8.30am Coffee.

9.00am Presentation: Dr Seamus Ross, Director of Humanities Computing and Information Management at the University of Glasgow, "Digitisation and sustainable access to heritage assets".


10.00am Morning tea


10.30am Further discussion, seeking support of National Digital Forum strategy, and agreement of recommendations. An interactive discussion chaired by Dianne Macaskill.



12.00pm Lunch

3.30pm Paul Reynolds will report on his research into how organisations with local and regional collections can be assisted to make their resources available on-line. Paul is currently joint Managing Director of McGovern & Associates New Zealand.
He will also sum up the Forum activities.

4.00pm Poroporoaki: Seddon Bennington and Te Taru White (Te Papa).


Demonstrations to run during the breaks on Day 2.
