Introduction

The New Zealand Register of Digitisation Initiatives (RoDI) contains basic information about digitisation initiatives that are based in New Zealand or that relate to New Zealand topics. A digitisation initiative is any project that creates and provides access to digitised resources.

RoDI aims to provide a central source of information about New Zealand digitisation initiatives and to help individuals and organisations contact others in the field with similar interests.

You can use RoDI to

  • Search the database of digitisation initiatives
  • Contribute details of digitisation initiatives at your organisation
  • Make contact or share expertise with others in the digitisation community.

Scope

All types of organisations public, private and non-profit can contribute details of projects that digitise resources and make them available in an electronic form.

Entries for projects outside New Zealand that digitise resources relating to New Zealand topics are also welcome. Projects can be planned, currently underway or already completed.

If you are not sure whether your project falls within the scope of RoDI, please contact us.

RoDI includes:

  • Digitisation projects, such as conversions of collections of texts, still and moving images, sound recordings or 3-D objects into digital format for access via the World Wide Web or another platform
  • Online exhibitions
  • Other projects that involve digitised content created in New Zealand or related to New Zealand topics.

RoDI does not generally include:

  • Current publishing of books, reports or magazines in electronic form
  • Homepages of organisations
  • Directories of links to web resources, where access is not directly provided to digitised content.
  • Many of these types of resources can be accessed via the Te Puna Web Directory: http://webdirectory.natlib.govt.nz/
